WNBA Wrap: Wins for Mystics and Wings
Two exciting games highlighted the WNBA on Wednesday night and saw the Dallas Wings and Washington Mystics win their closely contested matchups.
Elena Delle Donne had 22 points and seven rebounds, Ariel Atkins scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds and pulled off five steals to help the Washington Mystics beat the Chicago Sky 81-74.
The win saw the Mystics sweep its four-game road trip with wins at Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Atlanta and Chicago.
Delle Donne, who has totalled 72 points in her last three games, sank a free-throw line jumper at the end of the shot clock to cap the scoring with 14.4 seconds left.
Tianna Hawkins scored 15 points while Kristi Toliver had 10 with four assists for the Mystics.
Allie Quigley led the Sky with 21 points, Stefanie Dolson had 13 points, while Courtney Vandersloot had eight points, six rebounds and eight assists.
Meanwhile, Nigerian-American guard Arike Ogunbowale scored 23 points to help the Dallas Wings beat the Connecticut Sun 74-73.
Down 13 late in the third quarter, Connecticut opened the fourth on a 15-2 run to take a 66-63 lead.
Ogunbowale, banked in a long three-pointer with 1:23 remaining to give her team a 72-70 lead. Neither team made a basket again until Allisha Gray made two free throws with 5.1 seconds left to give Dallas a four-point lead.
Connecticut’s Jasmine Thomas answered with a corner three, but Gray ran out the clock at the other end.
Isabelle Harrison added 13 points for Dallas.
Alyssa Thomas scored a career-high 28 points for Connecticut, while Thomas finished with a 19-points, 11-assists double-double.
