Jr. NBA Global Championship: Day 3

Day three of the Jr. NBA Global Championship in Orlando was the start of the Pool Play with the U.S. and international teams starting the tournament.


The Africa Girls team took on Europe & Middle East Girls in their opener at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday afternoon.


Europe & Middle East won the game 51-34 led by Ines Goryanova’s (England) 14 points and four rebounds.


The African team was led by Kadidia Traore (Mali) who recorded eight points and 12 rebounds. Sandrine Kamgain of Cameroon added eight points and six rebounds.


Meanwhile, the Jr. NBA Africa Boys team defeated Europe and Middle East Boys 82-41. NBA Academy Africa’s Marouf Moumine from Cameroon led the team with a 25-point, 13-rebound double-double, with Babacar Djiby Ly of Senegal and Khadim Diongue of Senegal adding 13 points each.


In addition, the young boys and girls took part in a morning life skills seminar focused on healthy nutrition as well as physical and mental preparation.


The Pool Play continues today:


· Africa vs. India Girls (6:00pm CAT)

· Africa vs India Boys (7:30pm CAT)

· Africa vs. Latin America Girls (10:30pm CAT)

· Africa vs. Latin America Boys ((0:00pm CAT)


The Jr. NBA Global Championship 2019 features boys and girls divisions, separated into U.S. and international brackets that begin with round-robin play and continue with single-elimination competition. 


The winners of the U.S. and international brackets will play in the global championship games on Aug. 11.


The games are broadcast live on Twitch with select Africa team games also available on NBA Africa YouTube.
